Brazil´s Elections and Their Impact on Democracy in Brazil

Hudson Institute will host a panel to discuss the results of the October 28 elections in Brazil. In particular, panelists will consider the two presidential candidates: Jair Bolsonaro, a right-wing populist with the nickname "Trump of the Tropics,” who currently leads in the polls; and Fernando Haddad, who represents the left-wing Workers’ Party. The discussion will also consider how this election factors into the current wave of populism in Latin American politics and other parts of the world.
Panelists will include the Director of BrazilWorks and George Washington University’s Brazil Initiative, Mark S. Langevin; Associate Professor at American University, Matthew Taylor; Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, Monica Arruda de Almeida; and Hudson Institute Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies, Ambassador Jaime Daremblum.
